Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about poker tools, strategy, and math

Yes, all 12 poker tools are 100% free, no registration, no hidden fees. Our equity calculator, pot odds calculator, and every other tool works instantly in your browser.
Our equity calculator runs 100,000+ Monte Carlo simulations per calculation. Pot odds and outs calculations use exact mathematical formulas. Results match professional solvers.
Yes, all tools are fully responsive. The range builder matrix, ICM trainer, and every calculator work perfectly on phones and tablets.
Our tools work for any type of poker. The math is the same whether you're playing for fun or real money. The bankroll calculator adjusts for both.
Start with our Poker Math IQ Test to find your weak spots. Then drill specific skills with the ICM trainer, pot odds calculator, and range builder.
Pot odds are the ratio of the current pot to the cost of your call. If the pot is $150 and you must call $50, you're getting 3:1 odds (needing 25% equity). Use our pot odds calculator for instant results.
Equity is your percentage chance of winning the pot at showdown. AA vs KK is about 82% vs 18%. Our equity calculator computes this using Monte Carlo simulation for any hand matchup.
Monte Carlo simulation deals out random remaining cards 100,000+ times, evaluates who wins each runout, and calculates your overall win percentage. It's the same method professional poker solvers use.
ICM (Independent Chip Model) converts tournament chip stacks into real-money equity based on the prize structure. Unlike cash games, doubling your chips does NOT double your equity. Practice with our ICM push/fold trainer.
Cash games: 20-30 buy-ins. MTTs: 100-200 buy-ins. SNGs: 50-100 buy-ins. Spins: 150-300 buy-ins. Use our bankroll calculator to get personalized requirements based on your risk tolerance.
Start with GTO presets for each position. Go tighter in early position (UTG ~15%), wider on the button (~45%). Our range builder includes presets for all positions and lets you customize ranges visually.
The core stats are VPIP (voluntarily put in pot), PFR (preflop raise %), and 3-bet %. A TAG player shows VPIP 18-25, PFR 15-22. Check our HUD stats reference for optimal ranges and opponent profiling.
Even a solid 5bb/100 winner can experience 30-50 buy-in downswings over 100K hands. This is mathematically normal. Simulate your own variance scenarios with our variance simulator.
A backer pays your buy-ins in exchange for a share of profits (typically 50/50). Markup (1.1x-1.5x) rewards proven winners. Makeup means you repay losses before splitting profits. Calculate terms with our staking calculator.
Tax rules vary dramatically by country. In the US, all gambling income is taxable. In the UK, gambling winnings are tax-free. Germany, Canada, and 47 other countries have unique rules. Check our poker tax calculator for your country.
Multiply your outs by 4 on the flop (two cards to come) or by 2 on the turn (one card to come) to estimate your percentage chance of hitting. 9 outs on the flop ≈ 36%. Use our outs calculator for exact numbers.
EV is the average amount you win or lose from a specific play over infinite repetitions. Positive EV (+EV) means the play is profitable long-term. Example: betting $50 into a $100 pot as a 60% favorite = +EV.
The Poker Math IQ Test scores 12 questions across pot odds, equity, outs, EV, ICM, and position. Points are weighted by difficulty (5/10/15 pts) with time bonuses for fast answers, converted to an IQ-like scale.
GTO (Game Theory Optimal) is an unexploitable strategy. It won't lose to any opponent. Exploitative play deviates from GTO to take advantage of specific opponent leaks. Most winning players blend both approaches.
Position lets you act last after seeing opponents' actions, giving you more information. The button (dealer) is the most profitable position, worth 2-3 bb/100 more than the blinds. Build position-specific ranges with our range builder.
Implied odds account for money you'll win on future streets if you hit your draw. Even if direct pot odds say fold, hitting a hidden flush against a player who'll stack off can make the call profitable. Calculate both with our pot odds calculator.
Absolutely. Study pot odds, ranges, and ICM concepts online, and apply them at the table. The Poker IQ test builds mental math skills, and the range builder helps memorize opening ranges for live play.

Free Online Poker Calculators & Training Tools (2026)

ToolsGambling offers 12 free poker calculators and training tools designed for players at every level, from beginners learning pot odds to professionals fine-tuning ICM decisions. Every tool runs client-side with zero registration, ensuring your hand data stays private.

Our suite covers the full spectrum of poker math: equity calculation via Monte Carlo simulation, pot odds and implied odds, outs counting with Rule of 2 and 4, and variance simulation over thousands of sessions.

Understanding Poker Equity and Win Percentages

Poker equity represents your share of the pot based on your probability of winning at showdown. When you hold AA preflop against KK, your 82% equity means you'll win roughly 4 out of 5 times. But equity shifts dramatically on every street. A hand with 20% on the flop can spike to 100% on the river.

Pot Odds, Implied Odds, and Profitable Calls

Pot odds compare what you risk to what you can win. Getting 3:1 means you need just 25% equity to break even. Implied odds extend this by factoring in future bets you'll win when you hit, making some seemingly unprofitable calls correct with deep stacks and hidden draws.

Poker Tournament Strategy: ICM and Push/Fold

Tournament poker adds layers of complexity absent from cash games. The ICM model proves that chips have diminishing marginal value. The first chip you win is worth more than the last. This means correct tournament play often requires folding hands you'd never fold in a cash game.

ICM and Bubble Factor Explained

Near the money bubble or at final tables, ICM pressure is highest. Busting costs you real equity in the prize pool, so survival has tangible value. A hand like AKo that's a clear shove in a cash game can become a fold when a short stack is about to bust and guarantee you a pay jump.

Range Construction for Every Position

Profitable poker starts with solid preflop ranges. Under the gun, you should open roughly 15% of hands. On the button, that expands to 40-50%. Our range builder provides GTO presets for every position and lets you customize ranges for different table dynamics.

Poker Bankroll Management and Variance

Even the best poker players experience extended losing streaks. Proper bankroll management ensures you survive these inevitable downswings without going broke. The math is simple but discipline is hard.

Cash Game vs Tournament Bankroll Requirements

Cash game players need 20-30 buy-ins due to lower variance. Tournament players need 100-200 buy-ins because of high variance and infrequent cashes. Spin & Go players face the most extreme swings and should maintain 150-300 buy-ins. Our variance simulator shows exactly why.

Understanding and Surviving Downswings

A winning player with a 5bb/100 win rate and standard 80bb/100 deviation can easily lose 30+ buy-ins over 50,000 hands. This isn't bad luck. It's mathematics. Knowing this in advance prevents tilt, premature stake moves, and quitting when you're actually a long-term winner.

Poker Math Fundamentals: EV, Outs, and Probability

Every profitable poker decision reduces to expected value (EV). If a play makes money on average over infinite repetitions, it's +EV, so do it regardless of the immediate outcome. Our outs calculator and pot odds tool help you identify +EV plays at the table.
