As of October 12, 2026, Mississippi permits casino sports betting and limited approved on-property mobile wagering, but it does not offer licensed statewide sportsbook wagering from home. Casino bettors must be 21 or older. This does not mean every mobile app is illegal: the relevant questions are which product you use, who operates it and where your wager is accepted.
The Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGC) FAQ and Part 9 sports wagering rules explain the main distinctions.
| Product | Location or availability | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Casino counter or kiosk wagering | At an authorized venue on licensed wagering premises | The operator’s authorization, sportsbook operation, age requirements and wager acceptance rules |
| Approved casino mobile wagering | Only within the approved mobile wagering area | Current app availability, in-person wagering-account verification and exact boundaries |
| Sportsbook wagering from home | Licensed statewide mobile sports betting is unavailable | Downloading an app or funding an account does not establish wagering permission |
| Licensed fantasy contests | May be available online, subject to operator and product rules | The company’s license, permitted contest format, age rules and participant restrictions |
| Prediction markets or promotional-currency products | App availability does not establish sportsbook authorization | The specific product’s legal status; do not assume it is a state-licensed sportsbook |
How Approved On-Property Mobile Wagering Works
Mobile wagers may be accepted only within an approved mobile wagering area. At commercial casinos, initial in-person wagering-account verification must take place on the property’s premises before a mobile wager is accepted.
Part 9, Rule 3.15(a–d), on page 12, authorizes applications and devices within the casino and hotel facility. That facility includes only property areas approved as legal for gaming. Parking areas and garages are excluded. A hotel room or pool is not automatically an approved wagering location. Rule 3.4 likewise restricts wagering to licensed premises and approved stations, kiosks or systems.
Before using an app, ask the property:
- Does it currently offer an approved sports betting app?
- What are the exact boundaries of its approved mobile wagering area?
- How do you complete initial wagering-account verification?
- Who can help if the app cannot confirm your location?
Browsing odds, registering and funding an account are separate from wager acceptance. Even if those functions work, the operator may not be authorized to accept a wager where you are standing. Follow the app’s actual geolocation result. If it rejects your location, contact support and confirm the approved area; do not use a VPN, location spoofing or a remote proxy to bypass the check.
Not every casino necessarily offers an app. A national brand’s app or an account used in another state is not guaranteed to work in Mississippi. For tribal properties, check the operator’s instructions and applicable regulator separately: commercial MGC rules do not replace tribal requirements.
Confirmed Property and Product Examples
Official pages support the following examples, but they are not an exhaustive list of licensed casinos or live mobile apps.
| Property | What the official source confirms | What to check before visiting |
|---|---|---|
| Beau Rivage, Biloxi | The Mississippi section of BetMGM’s official nationwide availability page identifies the BetMGM app at Beau Rivage when visiting Book Bar & Grill | Current account-verification instructions and the exact approved mobile wagering area |
| Gold Strike, Tunica | Its official sportsbook page describes a sportsbook powered by DraftKings, with counter and kiosk wagering for adults 21+ | Hours, available markets and ticket rules. Mobile wagering at this property is not confirmed |
| Pearl River Resort and Bok Homa | The official Pearl River Resort sportsbook page describes the PRR SPORTS app as limited to the premises at these properties | Exact permitted areas and current tribal operator instructions |
For commercial casinos, start with MGC Reports → Other and select “Current Licensed Casino Operators.” The operator registry marked Updated August 2026 confirms commercial licensing status. It does not verify every app’s availability or mobile wagering boundaries, and it is not a universal registry of tribal properties.
What to Verify Before Funding an Account or Traveling
Confirm the exact operator, product and wagering location before funding an account or planning a trip. This is a procedure based on public rules, not personal testing: no real account, login, deposit or withdrawal tests were performed for this guide.
- Open the registry and the property’s sportsbook page. For a commercial casino, use the MGC directory, then find the official page for that property’s sportsbook. A matching brand name on your phone is not enough.
- Confirm how wagers are accepted. Ask whether an approved app is operating and where its approved area is. If no app is verified, choose counter or kiosk wagering rather than assuming online access.
- Check eligibility. Casino wagering requires age 21+. Ask about identity documents, participation restrictions and self-exclusion. Do not assume every operator requires a particular passport, Social Security number or identical set of documents.
- Complete the required account verification. Commercial Rule 3.15 requires initial verification in person on the property’s premises before mobile wagering. For PRR SPORTS, the official property page specifies a Rewards Club Card and photo ID at the Players Club, plus a valid mobile phone for a temporary PIN. These are property-specific instructions, not statewide requirements.
- Read the market and settlement rules. Check accepted markets, settlement, event cancellation, overtime treatment and winning-ticket redemption.
- Confirm acceptance. An unpaid bet selection is not an accepted wager. Keep the acceptance confirmation, bet ID or original ticket, price, market and applicable rules.
If geolocation rejects the wager, stop and contact support. Move only to a confirmed approved area; bypassing a location check does not establish eligibility.
Professional and College Markets: What Is Permitted?
Mississippi’s approved catalog includes professional and NCAA events, subject to sportsbook availability, but individual NCAA player proposition bets are prohibited. Catalog approval does not require every sportsbook to offer an event or every related market.
The MGC sports wagering catalog revised June 11, 2026 distinguishes permitted events from prohibited wagers. For example, a college game moneyline, point spread or total differs from a bet on an individual quarterback’s passing yards. The latter is a prohibited NCAA player prop.

Original English page 6 excerpt from the MGC catalog revised June 11, 2026, captured October 12, 2026. The visible restriction prohibits individual NCAA player proposition bets; this is the source document, not a translated recreation.
A moneyline is a bet on the winner; a point spread applies a specified scoring handicap; a total concerns whether a combined score or other specified measure finishes over or under a line. Check each market’s rules. Permitted college game markets do not mean all college bets are allowed, and professional player props are not guaranteed to be offered.
What Happened to HB 4074?
HB 4074 did not become law: it passed the House but died in Senate committees. As checked on October 12, 2026, its legislative history does not establish a statewide mobile sports betting launch date.
The official HB 4074 history records these stages:
| Stage | Date | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Passed the House | February 25, 2026 | One chamber approved it; it was not yet enacted |
| Transmitted to the Senate | February 26, 2026 | The bill moved to the second chamber |
| Referred to Senate Gaming and Finance committees | March 12, 2026 | Committee consideration was needed for further progress |
| Died in committee | March 17, 2026 | The bill did not complete the enactment process |
The guide’s October check date is not a new legislative action. Passing one chamber does not establish enactment, an effective date or an app launch.
Fantasy Contests and Prediction Markets Are Separate Products
Mississippi licenses fantasy contests, but that does not authorize every form of sports wagering from home. Verify both the licensed company and the specific contest format.
The MGC FAQ and Part 15 fantasy contest rules explain this separate category. The official company list dated August 21, 2026 names:
- DK Crown Holdings Inc.
- Yahoo Fantasy Sports LLC
- FanDuel Inc.
- Underdog Sports LLC
This is a licensing snapshot of legal entities, not approval of every brand, product or format. DraftKings and FanDuel fantasy contests are distinct from their sportsbook apps. Fantasy licensing does not permit their sportsbook wagers from home in Mississippi.
Rule 3.1(f) prohibits fantasy contests based on college, high school or youth participants. Permission for certain NCAA sportsbook markets cannot be extended to DFS contests. Likewise, the casino participation condition of 21+ under Rule 2.2(i) is not a universal age rule for all online fantasy contests. Check the exact operator’s and contest’s age requirements.
Event contracts and prediction markets require a separate legal assessment. A platform’s claim to operate under a federal framework does not make it a state-licensed sportsbook. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch joined the April 30, 2026 comment letter on prediction markets. That letter states a legal position; it is not a court judgment or confirmation of any platform’s availability.
The MGC FAQ also warns about foreign licenses and sweepstakes-style products. A foreign license or promotional-currency structure does not automatically create an exception to state rules. Do not treat these services as verified substitutes for a licensed sportsbook.
Reading +150 Odds: An Optional Calculation Example
For this educational example, assume all amounts are in US dollars. With a stake of 20 at American odds of +150, an ordinary winning cash wager produces a gross return of 50.00 and net profit of 30.00. This is an odds calculation, not a forecast, licensing check or test of a casino account.
To reproduce it in the ToolsGambling odds converter:
- Open the converter using the link.
- Select the American-odds format labeled “Moneyline.”
- Enter 150 as the odds value and 20 as the stake. Leave the optional probability field empty.
- Read the results: decimal odds 2.50, fractional odds 3/2, implied probability 40.00%, gross return 50.00 and net profit 30.00.
English local odds converter showing odds 150, stake 20, decimal 2.50, fractional 3/2, implied probability 40.00%, gross return 50.00 and net profit 30.00
Local capture of the English converter with +150 odds and a stake of 20. This is a calculation example, not a real account, payment or wager-acceptance test.
Odds of +150 mean a profit of 150 for every 100 staked on a win. Under this ordinary cash-win model, the gross return includes the returned stake: 20 + 30 = 50. A loss costs the stake of 20. The decimal value here is exactly 2.5; displaying 2.50 adds no precision, and internal three-decimal rounding does not affect this example.
The price-derived implied probability of 40.00% is not the event’s true chance or a guarantee of positive value. The example does not calculate taxes, fees, void wagers, pushes or special product conditions. See how betting odds work for the full concepts.
Can You Travel to a Neighboring State to Bet Online?
Tennessee and Louisiana offer licensed online sports betting, but you must follow the rules where you are physically located. A Mississippi address does not permit sportsbook wagering from home in Mississippi or guarantee that an existing account will work elsewhere.
| Destination | Main location requirement | What to check before traveling |
|---|---|---|
| Tennessee | Physical presence in Tennessee and compliance with eligibility requirements | The licensed operator list and regulator FAQ |
| Louisiana | Mobile wagering only in approved parishes, not throughout the state without restriction | The licensed platform list and rules, including §505 on geolocation and prohibited parishes |
Confirm account, identity and location requirements with your chosen operator before leaving. Crossing a state line does not automatically activate an app. A legal neighboring market also does not authorize offshore access or location-check bypasses.
Winning-Ticket Redemption and Taxes
Before leaving the casino, ask about the winning-ticket redemption deadline, whether the original ticket is required and whether redemption by mail is available. Do not assume uniform payment methods or guaranteed payment times.
For example, the Gold Strike sportsbook FAQ specifies 365 days from the event. That is a property-specific condition, not a statewide Mississippi deadline. Keep your ticket and the applicable rules, especially if you expect to redeem it after your trip.
For taxes, distinguish three separate questions:
- Income: which winnings must be included on your return.
- Reporting: when an operator must issue tax documents.
- Tax withholding: what the operator withholds when paying you.
Mississippi Department of Revenue Notice 80-26-004, dated September 21, 2026 and posted September 28, provides for 3% gaming withholding on defined amounts subject to specified federal reporting or withholding conditions. It is not 3% of every win or a universal final tax rate.
The IRS requires all gambling winnings to be reported, even without a Form W-2G. Reporting thresholds depend on the game and wager conditions. Federal withholding of 24% is likewise not everyone’s final tax rate on every payout.
Keep records of wagers, returns and withholding. Consult a qualified tax professional for your individual circumstances, particularly if you are not a Mississippi resident. Tax reporting does not make an otherwise unauthorized activity lawful.
Responsible Gambling, Self-Exclusion and Complaints
Set money and time limits before betting; no strategy guarantees a profit. If gambling becomes a problem, seek help or consider self-exclusion. For wager disputes, use the sportsbook and the regulator with jurisdiction over that property.
The gambling help number 888-777-9696 appears in the official Gold Strike website footer.
You can apply for self-exclusion through the official MGC page. The online process requires an account, identification and photographs. The MGC self-exclusion FAQ specifies a minimum period of three years, with a lifetime option available after three completed years. The term begins upon approval, not immediately upon submission.
The program covers state-regulated casinos and access to their properties. Self-excluded patrons are removed from casino marketing lists. It does not cover the lottery or bingo, and coverage of all tribal gambling products cannot be assumed. Ask a tribal property about its separate process.
If you dispute a wager’s settlement or payment amount, preserve the original ticket, bet ID, price and rules, then contact the sportsbook. For matters within MGC jurisdiction, follow the Patron Complaints procedure: promptly file a written complaint with the nearest field office. At a tribal property, contact its operator and appropriate regulator. A complaint does not guarantee a refund.
This guide explains public rules; it is not legal advice for your individual situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, provided they meet the casino’s eligibility requirements. Casino bettors must be 21 or older, complete required identity checks and have no applicable participation restrictions. Out-of-state residency does not replace those checks. Approved mobile wagering also requires the operator’s account verification and physical presence in its approved mobile wagering area.
Opening an app, browsing odds, registering or funding an account is not the same as having a wager accepted. Available functions depend on the product, but Mississippi mobile sportsbook wagers must be accepted within the approved area. If geolocation rejects a wager, contact support and confirm the boundaries rather than bypassing the check.
They are separate regulated products. Mississippi’s sports wagering catalog permits NCAA events but prohibits individual NCAA player proposition bets. Separate fantasy contest rules prohibit contests based on college, high school or youth participants.
No confirmed launch date is established as of October 12, 2026. HB 4074 passed the House but died in Senate committees on March 17, 2026. Passing one chamber does not enact a law or establish a launch date.
No. An app-store listing, an existing account or the ability to fund an account does not establish permission to accept sportsbook wagers from home. Mississippi has no licensed statewide sportsbook wagering from home; approved mobile wagering is restricted to designated casino areas.
